Tour overview
Only 40 kilometres from the city, Ala-Archa National Park is the easiest way to see the real mountains of Kyrgyzstan. On this private Ala-Archa day trip from Bishkek you leave the city behind in under an hour and walk among juniper forest, glacier rivers and 4,000-metre peaks. It is ideal for a stopover, a business trip with one free day, or a first taste of the Tian Shan before a longer tour.
Your guide adapts the hike to you. Choose an easy walk along the valley floor, a moderate climb to the Ak-Sai waterfall, or a long day towards the Ak-Sai glacier for fit hikers. Pick-up, park fee, guide and a picnic lunch are all included.

Choose your hike
Easy valley walk. A flat trail follows the Ala-Archa river upstream from the park gate through juniper and spruce, with views of the glaciers at the end of the valley. Good for families, older travellers and winter visits.
Ak-Sai waterfall. The classic Ala-Archa hike: a steady climb of about 700 metres on a forest path to a 30-metre waterfall at around 2,900 metres. Moderate fitness needed; allow 5-6 hours return.
Ratsek hut. For strong hikers, the trail continues above the waterfall to the Ratsek climbers’ hut at 3,350 metres, at the foot of the Ak-Sai glacier and Korona peak. A long, tough day with the best views in the park.
Why visit Ala-Archa with a guide
Public transport to the park is limited, taxis do not wait, and trails above the waterfall are not marked. With a private guide and car you start early, avoid the weekend crowds, learn about the plants and wildlife of the park (ibex, marmots and, if you are very lucky, snow leopard tracks in winter) and get home safely before dark.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Ala-Archa from Bishkek?
Ala-Archa National Park is about 40 km south of Bishkek, a drive of around one hour from the city centre. That makes it the closest place to see high mountains from the capital.
Is the Ala-Archa day trip hard?
You choose the difficulty. The valley walk is easy and flat, the Ak-Sai waterfall hike is moderate with about 700 metres of ascent, and the Ratsek hut hike is long and demanding. Your guide sets a comfortable pace for your group.
Can I visit Ala-Archa in winter?
Yes, the park is open all year. In winter we do the valley walk in snow, which is beautiful and quiet. The waterfall trail can be icy, so it is offered from May to October, or with microspikes for experienced hikers.
What is included in the Ala-Archa day trip?
Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Bishkek, a private car and driver, an English-speaking hiking guide, the national park entrance fee, a picnic lunch and water.
What should I bring?
Comfortable hiking shoes, a warm layer and a rain jacket, sun cream, a hat and sunglasses. The weather in the mountains is cooler than in Bishkek, so bring layers even in summer.
Can this tour start from a layover or the airport?
Yes. If you have a long layover at Manas airport, we can pick you up there and drop you back in time for your flight. Let us know your flight times when you enquire.
